Wonders, Ladybugs and Empowerment

The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I was recently pondering the wonder of ladybugs. Each one of them has a slightly different shade of orange or red. As I observed one crawling along the window pane in my bedroom, I thought, “There may not be another living thing on the planet that looks exactly like this one.” Then I squished it …

How to Maintain Gratitude

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
-John F. Kennedy

Instant Gratification that is Permanent and Free

We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.
-Thornton Wilder

Gratitude – Clich√© or Real Power In the past, whenever the subject of gratitude would come up as a topic in a spiritual discussion, I would silently groan and think, “Not again.” But, it was always the case that by the end of the discussion, I was feeling blissful. At the time, I thought of …

Be Observant, Peaceful and Healthy – Slow Down

Slow down and enjoy life. It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.
-Eddie Cantor

Have you ever taken a walk or a bike ride down a street that you usually drive? You probably noticed a lot more interesting things that you normally miss. How observant we are correlates negatively with our speed. Have you ever noticed that the only time you lose your keys is when you’re in a …

Caring, Compassion, Charity

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us, "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
-Albert Einstein

We can not contribute to any cause without contributing to ourselves, because we are apart of all that surrounds us. This theme keeps coming up unintentionally in my posts lately. In We’re All Going to Die and We Are the Earth I pointed out that we are a part of the Earth. And today, I …
