Getting in the Gap

Through meditation, we can tap into an abundance of creative energy that resides within us, and a more meaningful experience of life, which enriches us permanently. By meditating, we come to know God rather than know about God.
-Dr. Wayne Dyer
Getting in the Gap: Making Conscious Contact with God Through Meditation

Meditation doesn’t feel like anything else in this life. It’s communication without words or thoughts, relaxation without reflection, bliss without feelings. It is simple, pure love. It makes me think that perhaps this is a glimpse of what it feels like to be in heaven.

Getting in the Gap by Dr. Wayne Dyer

When I read Dr. Wayne Dyer’s book, Getting in the Gap: Making Conscious Contact with God Through Meditation, my ability to meditate effectively and on demand improved significantly. This book focuses on Japa meditation, which is the act of repeating the sound of the name of God as a mantra.

In 68 pages, Dyer details an incredible method for practicing meditation in a way that is simple and capable of producing a meditative state instantly, whether you are laying in a bed or sitting in a car. After practicing his methods, I am now able to spend time meditating that might have otherwise been wasted: in waiting rooms, when holding my son, when I have trouble sleeping.

He talks about using meditation as a means to manifest intentions and see desires realized by focusing on your desires when you meditate. I have often found that the success of my day is determined by whether I meditated on it.

The book also comes with an audio CD containing guided meditations. I found these to be invaluable in learning exactly what he is suggesting in the book, but I only used them once since they also have a tendency to distract me. In fact, the first time I listened and heard Dyer repeating the mantra, “Ahhhhhhh”, it struck me as funny, but I got used to it eventually. Nevertheless, it was a great learning tool.

The writings of Dr. Wayne Dyer have had a profound impact on my life. I stumbled on his recent book, Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling, early this year. It was a time in my life when I knew I needed to make some significant changes, but wasn’t sure where to start. It seemed that God dropped this book into my life at just the right time.

His writing style is sincere and inspirational. He has a talent for relinquishing doubt and convincing his readers that they really can live a spiritual, enlightened life and accomplish anything they set out to do. In reading his words, my relationship with God grew in leaps and bounds, and continues to do so today.

Knowing God

It is in moments of meditation that we are able to really know and feel God. When I meditate on my goals and desires, I feel as if I am communing with God and directly planning with Him about how the universe will come together and how my goals will be realized. According to Dyer, it is in the gaps between thoughts that God exists.

I had a meditation cassette back in high school that I loved, but it did crack me up a little bit at the same time. It was chakra meditation, though.

These are great suggestions. If you ever feel the need to loan them to someone, let me know! :)

It was early summer of this year that, as you said, God dropped into my life “Getting In The Gap” and “Change Your Thoughts / Change Your Life” … these have deepened my connection with God in a way that I have spent years searching for through a plethora of organized religions. I am grateful for finding your post and your blog this morning. Sending you love, abundance, knowingness, and bliss! – ANNIE
